Can the data of our mobile phone treat mental health?
Closing Gaps in Mental Health care using new IT tools.
We are constantly using our phone. We touch our phones 2,617 times a day. We provide to the mobile phone a lot of information about our behavior, about how we feel, about how we are. Maybe we are not even aware about the promising use that mobile data can offer to health.
Research has advanced to a point where data can be used as a biomarker to psychiatrist. According to Torous, J et al (2016) “Mobile phone technology combined with data science has the potential to offer medicine a wealth of additional information on disease phenotypes, but the large majority of existing smartphone apps are not intended for use as biomedical research platforms and, as such, do not generate research-quality data”.
So is this the begging to use data to help better people who suffer for mental illness?
